Leicester Football teams in danger of not playing Varsity matches at the King Power

Both Leicester Football Club’s are in danger of not playing at the King Power Stadium whilst ULWRFC might have to play twice in one day on Varsity Day.

Men’s and Women’s Football teams are in danger of not playing at the King Power Stadium – the home of Leicester City FC.

At a meeting for club and society presidents, members from the Students’ Union ARC team told students that the clubs might not play the biggest matches of the season at the stadium.

Student Group Administrator, Ian Thursfield, told the meeting: “the decision was still up in the air.”

Both Rugby First XV’s are expected to play at Welford Road, the same as in previous years.

In an interesting case of match organisation, the University of Leicester Women’s Rugby team could be faced with playing two matches on the same day.

The team are currently undefeated in the BUCS league this season, defeating Coventry 22-0 yesterday. They are also expected to progress to the final of the cup.

Should they reach the final they will face a difficult day, travelling to Norwich and back before playing De Montfort at Welford Road for the Varsity crown. The team has been undefeated at Varsity for the last decade.

This years Varsity dates are March 22nd, 23rd and 26th, though the when specific teams will play their matches is not currently known.

Men’s Rugby will complete the Varsity season at the home of Leicester Tigers.
