Hiatus for the Metro

Swanky refurbishment plans leave Jesmond without a Metro between Sunday 28th October and Saturday 3rd November

There will be no Metro service from Jesmond between 28th October and 3rd November, while the track is replaced.

The line will be closed from Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends to Haymarket, meaning students must rely on buses for six days.

The work is part of a £385 million modernisation project which will improve the track, refurbish carriages, and introduce a ticket system based on London’s Oyster card.

But it may also spell the end of the free ride, as new ticket barriers will stop you travelling without a ticket.
