12 are hospitalised after taking LSD at Jesmond house party
The group, aged between 17 and 24, were at a party on Osborne Terrace. Police were called after fellow party-goers expressed concern for their welfare. Paramedics arrived and admitted nine men and three women to Newcastle’s RVI hospital and Rake Lane Hospital in North Tyneside for treatment.
Eight of them were released this morning, while four remained in hospital for further treatment.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs. He is currently assisting police in their enquiries.
Chief Inspector Richard Jackson said: “Taking any illegal drug is dangerous and potentially life threatening. LSD, which is what we believe has been taken, is an illegal hallucinogenic drug. If anyone has any of these paper tabs with the strawberry motif on them in their possession, we would urge them not to take it.
“Anyone who may have taken the drug recently and feels unwell should seek medical attention immediately.”
LSD is a psychedelic drug which causes hallucinations, and as proven here can be highly dangerous for the user.
