Idols is having one last send-off before it moves venue
It’s been a favourite for 25 years
Idols is moving to the City Vaults at Bigg Market after being at the heart of the party scene in Newcastle for a quarter of a century.
It was announced in December last year that it was going to shut for good, but this month, plans were unveiled for a change of location.
They’re throwing a send-off his weekend, which promises to be “the busiest and craziest closing party Newcastle has ever seen.”
The venue is known for its sticky floors, topless dancers and the infamous IDOLIZER, which is a double, a bottle of VHF and a Jaeger bomb for £5.
The move also heralds the end of “Foggo’s pre and post match football show”, which has entertained Newcastle United fans with topless dancers for over two decades.
Lacrosse playing Fresher Matt said: “Idols was so perfect for sports socials. All the sports teams go there on a Wednesday night in fancy dress.
“I think the fact that it’s moving is going to be a big change for Newcastle’s sports teams. The majority of which still go to Tiger Tiger on a Wednesday night so where Idols is now is ideal for a pub-crawl.
“I’m not sure people will continue to go if it’s at Bigg Market”.
Friday night will be the last chance for revelers to get an IDOLIZER and Saturday will see guest appearances from some of Idols’ ex-topless dancers and some “on stage games.”
Sunday is the club’s final night in its current venue where drinks will be buy one get one free all night.
On their Facebook page, Idols said: “Unlike other venues which have simply fizzled out, Idols was and still is one of the best (if not THE best) party bar in Newcastle!
“Yes we may not be everyone’s cup of tea and in the 90’s, the sticky floors may have ruined a few pairs of shoes but where else can you hear The Vengaboys mixed in with Cotton Eye Joe followed up by a bit of YMCA and dancers live on stage? Only in IDOLS!”
