Memecastle Blind Dates: why you should apply and our top tips

Let’s all be honest; dating in Newcastle is hard. Whether your type is rahs or rugby lads, everyone either seems to be in relationships or have a really cringe dating profile. If you have your height in your bio, we’re talking about you.

Enter Memecastle Blind Dates. Ran by the creators of the Memecastle Uni instagram, they’re comitted to finding you your one true uni love, or at the very least someone to go for one two pound Tuesday with and never see again.

Their dates are matched based on a lengthy application form, so they really do try and match you well. You can either go solo or take another single mate out on a double date. They also have an after party at Studio’s Groovy Disco Tech if you want to make a night of it, and the application fee is only £5

Why apply?

If dating apps aren’t working for you, you should really consider applying for blind dates. The application form is a fun activity to do with mates, and you aren’t committing to anything by applying – you don’t have to say yes to a date.

Plus, it’s a totally unique experience that’ll put you out of your comfort zone and leave you with a good story to tell. If you’re shy or struggle to talk to people over text, blind dates are perfect for you because all of the hard work is done for you.

Alternatively, if you’re a connoiseur of dating apps but haven’t found the right person letting someone else choose who you date will be a welcome change. The worst that can happen is that you spend an hour with someone you don’t click with and lose a fiver. Best case, you meet the love of your life (or at least until you graduate).

Top tips

We asked Memecastle for their own top tips, so it doesn’t get any better than these:

• Be yourself!
• Don’t bring your friends. Although it’s tempting to sit in the same venue and watch your mates on their date, this is off-putting for them and might ruin their date. If they really need the moral support, make sure you’re discreet.
• Be honest on the application form. Matchers try to factor in personality which they gauge from this form – don’t try and answer the way a date would want you to.
• Don’t take it too seriously – you may meet the love of your life but at the end of the day, it’s just a bit of fun.
• If you’re applying as a double date, choose your partner wisely.
• Do your application in a group. If you’ve run out of fun house activities, grab a bottle of wine and spend an hour on your applications. Your mates know you best so can help you with the questions.
