Alternative date ideas for the perfect Valentine’s Day in the Toon
Because dinner and drinks just don’t do it for everyone
The most romantic day of the year is once again fast approaching, and whether you’re a hopeless romantic who loves Valentine’s Day or an unfortunate single who hates it with all of their heart, this year might be the one to do something a little bit different.
Regardless of your relationship status, Valentine’s Day can still be for you; whether you’re all loved up, a single pringle, or trying to plan the perfect Galentine’s, Newcastle certainly has something for everyone. Think outside of the familiar dinner and drinks date box and check out our alternative date ideas for the perfect Valentines day in the Toon.
Crazy Golf
Everybody knows that crazy golf makes the perfect date, whether it’s with that special someone, a housemate, or a group of your friends. It’s fun, it’s casual and Newcastle definitely isn’t lacking in Crazy Golf Venues, with Mr Mulligans, Ghetto Golf and the newly opened Junkyard Golf Club right on our doorstep. It’s the ultimate alternative date to try out this valentines day.
Lane 7
Similarly to crazy golf, a fun date idea with a few drinks involved will never be boring!
Lane 7 located on St James’ Blvd offers bowling, ping pong, pool and even karaoke all with a side of cocktails – everyone’s a winner.
A day trip to Durham
Newcastle is what we all know and love, but this Valentine’s Day might be the perfect opportunity to explore one of our neighbouring cities with a day trip to Durham. The beautiful cathedral city is only a twenty minute train ride away.
With tickets from Newcastle Central Station from as cheap as £2.80, what are you waiting for?
Pottery Painting
The Pottery Experience in Jesmond is a pottery cafe that gives you the chance to make and paint your own pottery items such as mugs, bowls, plates and even piggy banks.
A Valentine’s date at The Pottery Experience won’t just leave you with a lovely memory but also a ceramic piece of memorabilia. You you won’t be forgetting this Valentine’s Day for a long time.
Late night curry at KOH – I – NOOR
Although we are steering away from classic dinner dates this year, this date idea is certainly out of the ordinary. Koh – I – Noor curry house in the city centre is a step up from the ordinary post-club takeaway.
Open until the early hours ( 3AM on Friday and Saturday, 2AM Monday and Wednesday, 2.20AM Thursday and 1.30AM on Sundays) and conveniently situated opposite to our beloved Market Shaker, it’s totally the spot if you’re looking for a late night date.
Everyman Cinema
The cinema has always been an iconic date destination, and Everyman Cinema located on Grey’s Street has everything a normal cinema would and more.
With luxurious sofas and the option to order food and drink directly to your seats, it would be the perfect spot to sit back and relax this Valentine’s Day.
Quayside Market
With Valentine’s Day falling on a Monday this year, many may find it hard to celebrate. So, why not celebrate the romantic holiday on Sunday with a trip to the weekly Quayside Market?
An early morning stroll down at The Quayside while you browse the market stalls could be the perfect start to this special Sunday; you could even treat yourself to a freshly made donut or a hot chocolate. If you’re feeling extra romantic, surprise that special someone with some handmade jewellery.
The beach
A classic day out for any student and with Tynemouth just a few metro stops away, the beach is an obvious date choice.
Why not wake up at the crack of dawn to catch the beautiful coastal sunrise this Valentine’s Day? It’s definitely a more dramatic and exciting date idea than dinner and drinks – just remember to wrap up warm.
Cheese and wine night
It can be hard to celebrate valentines day on a student budget, so staying in is a perfect solution.
A cheese and wine night is both classy and cheap. Everybody can get involved, housemates included, and even if you hate Valentine’s Day I’m sure you love Tesco’s Juicy Rosé wine.
