‘SEXIST BULLSHIT’ TARGETED BY NEW NOTTS CAMPAIGN
Notts students encouraged to speak out against everyday sexism
Students have launched a social-media campaign attacking everyday sexism in Nottingham.
The campaign, #NottsSexism, was kick-started yesterday by UoN Feminists and UoNSU Women’s Network.
It urges university students and staff to tweet their experiences of sexism on and off campus.
Rather more bluntly, Jo Estrin, Co-Founder of UoN Feminists, said the campaign was a chance to “speak out about sexist bullshit.”
Several disgusted students quickly took to twitter:
@NottsSexism Waiting at an empty bar and having a man come stand by me, not to talk to me but to stroke me #nottssexism

@NottsSexism Walking to uni where the trams being built I was told I had ‘blow me lips’ apparently I was supposed to be flattered.

Being asked if I’d like a spanking when I got a man’s drink order wrong at work. No thank you. @NottsSexism #NottsSexism

@NottsSexism A man in his 70s called me a ‘bit of talent’ at work, I just felt ashamed. I’m talented not talent! #nottssexism

Speaking exclusively to the Tab, NottsSexism said: “We hope to highlight the fact that sexism is not extinguished and certainly is not acceptable.
“By speaking out about these issues we believe it will give others the confidence to recognise sexist attitudes and object to them.”
The campaign follows a ban last year on Robin Thicke’s controversial ‘Blurred Lines’ in Nottingham’s SU bar Mooch after a petition by UoN Feminists.
