Nottingham to host top international tennis tournament

From the summer of 2015, the Nottingham Tennis Centre – barely metres from University Park’s South Entrance – will be home to some of the world’s finest athletes, just a week before Wimbledon.
Nottingham Tennis Centre – what a sight
Securing an international level sporting event is a monumental coup for the city following a £735,000 refurbishment of the Nottingham Tennis Centre in 2008.
The tournament replaces the men’s competition at Eastborne’s Devonshire Park, which returns to a women-only contest.
It is the first time our fair city has hosted tennis of the highest level for seven years and is part of a general expansion of the grass court season.
Previous winners of the Nottingham Open include stars such as Richard Gasquet, Jonas Bjorkman and former British no.1 Greg Rusedski.

LTA chief executive/tennis big dog Michael Downey was very complimentary about Nottingham:
“Nottingham is a great city with a rich sporting pedigree and I’m delighted that we are bringing this international tournament back to the area which will help to inspire more people to play and follow tennis.
“The weeks in the lead up to Wimbledon are a vital time for players to find their feet on grass, and the Nottingham Tennis Centre boasts some of the finest grass courts in the country.”

The 2015 event, officially to be called the AEGON 250 (but, let’s be honest, the Nottingham Open sounds cooler), will take place from 22nd-28th June.
