A student in Rutland Hall has died
English students were informed today of the student’s passing
A student in Rutland Hall has passed away, The Nottingham Tab can confirm.
Students studying English courses were informed about the death in an email sent by the Head of the School of English, Professor Svenja Adolphs, this afternoon.
The student was in their first year studying English with Creative Writing.
In the email sent to all undergrads and postgrads studying English, Professor Adolphs said she "was sorry that [she] had to pass on this tragic news via email"
"Whether you know [her] very well or not, I want to reassure you all that the University is here to support you, both personally and academically, at this extremely difficult time.
"The University has a number of support services avaiable to support you. This includes the University Counselling Service and Chaplaincy – both have been notified of the situation.
"Locally, the Faculty Welfare Team are also available to any student(s) who have been particularly affected, and some tailored support is being offered this week.
"At this most difficult time, I can only urge you all to help one another and to maintain contact with us so that we can effectively support you and our community"
Adolphs suggested that English students are encouraged to email the Welfare officer of the School, Jonathan Kavanagh ([email protected]) if in need of support academically or emotionally.
Addressing the student death, a spokesperson for the University said: "The University has been made aware of the sudden death of one of our students. We are of course deeply saddened and offering our support to those affected."
The Nottingham Tab has chosen not to name the student at this point out of respect for their friends and family.
