These are the best things to do in and around Notts during a global pandemic

The new term is fast-approaching and despite some return to normality, we are not going to have the experience of University which we all expected.

So here are 7 things to do in and around Nottingham, that not only fit the student budget but are also really great alternatives to our usual night-outs:

Cocktail Night

Clubs might still be closed, but we can definitely still drink the night away! There are so many fantastic cocktail bars around Nottingham with a great atmosphere, some favourites being: CookieShake, Pepper Rocks, Coco Tang, Revolution and Slug and Lettuce. All of these bars listed have either some form of student deals or Happy Hour.

Hiking

For the more outdoorsy student, a trip to the nearby Peak District is a great weekend activity for you and your flatmates to do. Around an hour away by car, Dovedale was one of the best spots; providing scenic views and a really fun day out.

Picnic in Wollaton Park

Situated next to University Park, what better to do on a nice sunny day in Nottingham, than catch the 35 or 36 bus to Wollaton Park. Not only is the park home to a number of friendly deers; it is also an ideal location for a scenic picnic with your pals. Over lockdown, I spent a lot of time here with my friends and it was a really nice breather from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Cinema

Cinemas have finally opened after lockdown, so why don’t you and your mates treat yourself to a cheeky Cinema trip? The Savoy Cinema on Derby Road is an old-fashioned cinema with a lot of character and costs only £5 for a student ticket (bargain).

Ikea Trip

Need some last-minute bits for your uni room? Pop to Ikea! Not only is it a massively underrated day out, but the uni essentials are great and have lasted me right into the third year. Special mention for the veggie hotdog which was only 45p (yes 45P!), and 65p for chips, you can’t go wrong.

Bowling

Bowling is a great activity to do with your flatmates and is actually very reasonably priced. Nottingham Bowl in the city centre is just £5 a game, or £8 for 2 games, a few rounds of bowling is a great way to get closer to new flatmates too!

Mini-Golf

Situated in town in the Cornerhouse, Lost City Adventure Golf is a great little night-out idea! At just £6.50 for 18 holes from Monday to Thursday, it’s a real good bargain. In the upstairs area, there is also a fantastic little tiki bar which has cocktail deals of £7 each or 2 for £10; you can also bring a selection of drinks around the course too.
