Ocean bouncer fired after footage of man being punched in face goes viral

The club has said the man is also ‘in the wrong’

A bouncer at Ocean nightclub in Nottingham has been fired after footage of a young man being restrained and punched by a security guard has circulated on social media.

The footage, reportedly taken on the evening of Wednesday 23rd March, shows a man being detained before being punched in the face outside of Ocean nightclub by a security guard who is employed by a separate security firm.

Andy Hoe, the owner of Ocean, has said that the man in the video was also “a little in the wrong”, stating that the full situation cannot be gaged from the footage as it only shows “the last few seconds”.

The video, taken by a witness of the event, shows the man being detained up against an outside wall of Ocean nightclub by three security guards before one of them punches him in the face. A fourth security guard can be seen stood by watching.

After the punch, the other two bouncers then release the man and seemingly try to restrain the arms of the third bouncer who carried out the punch.

Bystanders to the event can be heard exclaiming in the background of the footage: “woah, woah, woah.”

In several posts made to his Instagram story yesterday, Andy Hoe said: “Just a heads up… I’m aware of the video from last night I was sent it a few minutes after.

“It was dealt with pretty much immediately and the guy was fired. I’ve also spoken directly to the student who said he was also maybe a little in the wrong in the build up to what’s on the video.

“What’s on the video is literally the last few seconds. But that doesn’t justify the actions of the doorman whatsoever so he won’t be back at Ocean again.

“I won’t put up with that kind of stuff. I contacted my GM [General Manager] & the owner of the security company when I got the video to tell them the response to take.

“But I didn’t need to they had already done it. They know what conduct I expect and that definitely wasn’t it.”

The Tab Nottingham has contacted Andy Hoe, Ocean for further comment.
