Place your bets on Page 3 ban

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has waded in to a dispute over porn access on Oxford computers.

Students at Exeter and Trinity currently get the message “Forbidden category: nudism’” when they try to access the site.

But the bookie reckons the ban will have been removed by the end of this calendar year, especially as, according to The Sun, “The nation’s intellectual elite are furious”.

In a press release entitled ‘Odds look good for the Oglers of Oxford Uni’ the company revealed the figures.

“At 8/11, it’s looking good that the Page 3 ban will be lifted on all Oxford University computers by the end of this year – signalling in a happy new start to the spring term (sic) for many.”

And the company thinks student agitation might be the way forward for Page 3 aficionados, saying “4/1 is also available for those wishing for an organised topless protest to take place in support of the right to bare (beyond) arms.”

A spokesperson commented: “The colleges seem determined that the only spires the students should be dreaming of are of the architectural variety. However we think there’s a fair chance that the student body will not be covered up on this one!”

Other novelty bets  Paddy Power offers include 7/1 that alien life will be discovered this year and – wait for it – 25/1 that ex-Oxford student Emma Watson will be Justin Bieber’s next girlfriend.

It is not the first time the company has courted controversy. Recent adverts have seen blind men mistaking a cat for a football and chavs at the races being shot with tranquilliser darts.

And when paying out for Obama in the US election, they castigated Romney for being neither “black or cool”.
