Kanye West given honorary degree from Oxford

He’s a Doctor of Music now

After his show stopping performance last term, it has been announced that rapper Kanye West has been given an honorary degree by Oxford University.

Vice-Chancellor Andrew Hamilton said he was “delighted” to be honoring the works of “such a great contributor to the arts”.

Hamilton and West at the announcement last night.

Kanye announced he’d received the award last night, saying: “Oxford University has decided that they want me, Kanye West, the very man, to receive a degree from them. I’d be happy to accept the honor and improve the University in the process.”

The move will come as a slight to Taylor Swift, who was rumoured to be the University’s second choice.

As part of the agreement, Yeezy now takes up a stipendiary lecturer position. He’ll be delivering one guest lecture a term in the Music faculty, with a special lecture “How to break into the fashion industry” to be given at the Said Business School.

Kanye recently launched his new “Yeezy” sneaker range.

He’ll also be working with the Philosophy department on producing a song for his new album, So Help Me God. The song will be teased in the upcoming issue of leading philosophy journal Mind.

“I just have so many ideas,” added ‘Ye. “Obama’s stopped picking up the phone, so I figured I’d share my wisdom with y’all and help raise you guys to my level instead.”

Kanye got emotional when he came to Oxford last term

University insiders have commented that the move appears to be preparation for the announcement that Kanye has been shortlisted for Andrew Hamilton’s replacement. Hamilton departs the University next term.

Neither party commented on this speculation, with Kanye simply saying “I’m sure the best man for the job will be chosen”.
