Sheffield student in Miss South Yorkshire final

A student from the University of Sheffield has made it to the final 25 in this year’s Miss South Yorkshire competition.

22 year old Amber Gamble, a third year journalism student, is in with a chance of winning a 100 km trek across Africa, a £500 cash prize and progression to the Miss Galaxy England finals.

Amber told The Tab she was thrilled to make it through and was looking forward to the fitness boot camp at Meadowhall on Saturday.

“It’s really nerve wracking. When I did Miss Buckinghamshire, one of my friends saw it and said I should do it, so I just kind of did it as a joke, and didn’t think I’d win.

“But at the Miss England finals it was a much bigger deal, and I remember being really nervous walking out on the catwalk and having all these eyes staring. But its really good fun, and I enjoy it.”

Judges selected Amber for the final after auditions in Rotherham in November. The final is on the 21st February.

And it’s not just about strutting your stuff. Amber has been raising money for charity safe@last which helps children who have run away from home, and last night (Tuesday) raised £365 by holding a ‘pampering session’ at her home.

“There is quite a lot to do. It’s very charity based as they have a Miss Charity as well for the person who has organised the most events and put in the most effort.”

Finally, Amber gave her thoughts on the caliber of students here at Sheffield Uni.

“When I went to the open day I thought, this is where I want to go, because obviously it’s where the best looking people are. So why not?”
