Plug wins ‘best nightclub’ at nightlife awards

Leadmill and Popworld were runners up

Plug has beat the likes of Leadmill, Popworld and Corp to win ‘best nightclub’ at an awards evening celebrating Sheffield’s safe nightlife.

The nightclub, popular for its regular nights Bonkers and Spanked, claimed the top award at the evening recognising the achievements of 40 accredited nightclubs, bars and pubs in the city centre.

Friday night indie staple Leadmill and Carver Street’s Popworld finished as joint runners up, while Sheffield won the national prizes for both Most Innovative and Best Overall scheme earlier this month.

Devonshire Street’s eclectic The Old House was named best bar/late bar and overall winner at the awards with Viper Rooms scooping the Peoples Choice Award.

Accredited by both The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University,  the Best Bar None scheme aims to promote the city as a safe and vibrant place to go out, encouraging a partnership to resolve issues of alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour.

Other winners at the evening included Revolution winning Most Improved and Sheffield University taking home the University Challenge award.

Guilty pleasure Popworld was the Student Safety Award winner, but was beaten by burger and quiz hotspot The Cavendish for the Best Chain crown.

The scheme has also created a Best Bar None app to provide all the essential information needed for a safe and fun night out in the city.

The app is available to download on Android and Apple devices, offering venue suggestions via GPS and safety tips.
