Sheffield Uni has been named one of the best places to work

We’re the only University on there

The University of Sheffield has made it onto the prestigious Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list at number 32 in the not-for-profit category. Every year the Sunday Times publishes this list, which ranks ‘the cream of Britain’s employers’ based on anonymous surveys filled out by the employees themselves.

According to the Sunday Times the list is ‘a high-profile event in the nation’s business calendar’, anxiously waited upon by employers every year to see if their firm made it. What’s more, the top 100 features no other Universities whatsoever, which is obviously a point of pride for the University of Sheffield and its staff.

pure excitement swept Sheffield at the news of the Uni’s success

The University of Sheffield was a new entry on the list, climbing to 32nd overall on the Not-For-Profit Organisations top 100. Other well-known employers which were beaten by the Uni include well-known graduate employer Teach First and your grandma’s favourite providers of countryside days out, the National Trust.

A detailed explanation of the criteria for this competition can be found on the Sunday Times website, which counts Leadership, Wellbeing, Giving Something Back, Personal Growth, My Manager, My Company, My Team and Fair Deal (pay and benefits) as the main categories tested by their survey.

The Uni is evidently pleased with their success, sending out flyers to students thanking them for their ingenuity and energy, which is key to the University being such a great place.

Also worth noting is that a few SU’s from across the country made it onto the not-for-profit list; Surrey SU was an incredible 5th on the list, with Kent and Cardiff Unions also featuring in the top 100. Something for our ‘best SU in the country’ to take into consideration next year, perhaps?
