Police appeal for witnesses after a stabbing near Ecclesall Road
It happened by Champs Bar
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 20 year old man was stabbed just off Ecclesall Road last night.
The stabbing happened after an altercation at about 7.20pm on Pomona Street, which is next door to Ecclesall Road.
After the incident, the victim reportedly made his way into Champs Sports Bar and Grill for assistance.
Joe Robinson, the assistant manager of Champs was on duty at the time. He told The Star: “I think the incident happened around 200 yards from the pub, all the Sunday football had finished so it wasn’t overly busy at the time.
“This lad came in through the back shouting for help. He looked like he had a stab wound to his stomach.
“We got a cloth from the back and pressed on his wound. We tried to calm him down the best he could and tried to take care of him while the ambulance arrived.
“We asked all the customers to move round to one side of the pub while we looked after him until the ambulance got here.”
The man was taken to hospital last night and is now in a stable condition, but is still seriously injured.
Officers had to temporarily cordon off Pomona Street and have been carrying out enquiries since the early hours of the morning.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information after a 20-year-old man suffered serious injuries during an incident in Sheffield.
