Sheffield ranked in top twenty universities in the UK
Hallam didn’t even make the rankings
Lorna ColwillThe University of Sheffield has been ranked the 16th best university in the country and 138th best in the world, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Whilst we are continuing to perform well nationally, the rankings saw many of our Russell Group rivals falling behind us, including Cardiff, Nottingham and Warwick.
Globally, we tied with Sapienza University of Rome, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of São Paulo for the 138th spot.

There was further good news for Sheffield in the subject rankings too, with Arts and Humanities, Computer Science, Environment / Ecology, and Plant and Animal Science all featuring in the global top 100.
All universities were ranked based on a number of factors, including global and regional research reputation, publications, conferences and books.
Sheffield ranked 124th for global research reputation, and an impressive 25th for our books.
As expected, the usual suspects, Oxford and Cambridge, were the only UK universities to rank in the global top ten.
And, in a perhaps unsurprising twist, Sheffield Hallam returned no search results on the US News Global Universities web page. Unlucky.
