Sheffield exam evacuated due to bomb scare

It happened this morning

An exam taking place on campus was interrupted this morning after “suspicious activity” was reported to South Yorkshire Police.

The fire alarm is said to have gone off at 10.35 am, with students sitting the exam being evacuated.

A call was allegedly made to South Yorkshire Police, reporting ‘suspicious activity’. A police spokesman has said: “We received the call and attended the campus off Mappin Street to reports of suspicious activity. We evacuated the building as a precaution but there was no concerns surrounding the reports. The call was made with good intentions.”

Mappin Street was closed by police officers, but has since been reopened.

Examinations being sat including a politics exam, will not be finished and have now been referred to department procedure. The associated departments have said they will ‘be in touch’ with students who are concerned about the fate of their exams.

This has come just a few days after police arrested someone on Kelham Island as part of an anti-terror operation.
