Sheffield graduate becomes Britain’s youngest doctor

He started his degree aged 17

University of Sheffield graduate Arpan Doshi has become Britain’s youngest doctor, at just 21 years old.

Arpan recently graduated from Sheffield Medical School, gaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree. On the day of his graduation he was aged 21 and 335 days old, beating the previous record holder by just 17 days.

Arpan started his degree in Sheffield at just 17 years old, after schooling in India and an International School in France. At the age of 14 he had already acquired six GCSEs at A* or A grade. Two years later he had completed the International Baccalaureate in six subjects, with a score of 41 out of 45.

His career in medicine began when the University of Sheffield offered him a scholarship worth £13,000. Following his graduation, Arpan has become Britain’s youngest junior doctor and hopes to one day become a heart surgeon.

Arpan told The Sun: “I didn’t realise I was the youngest person to qualify until a friend checked on the internet.

“My dream is to become a heart surgeon but it is a very competitive field.”
