The must see gigs in Sheffield this October

As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, it can only mean one thing. Tour season.

Festivals are well and truly over so it's now down to the small venues across the Steel City to showcase the best talent working its way up the ladder of musical success.

Without further ado, here are the must see gigs in Sheffield this month:

Liberty Ship – Foundry, 6th October

The Sheffield four piece are back in their hometown for their biggest headline show to date. Combining elements of local lads Milburn and The La's, they have a fantastic back catalogue and support slots with bands such as Reverend and the Makers, King Charles and the Libertines proves that they aren't far off making it to the big time.

They are touring all around the country on the back of their latest release 'Snakes and Ladders', which we had a chat about with them last week, and are stopping off at Uni Of Sheffield's SU to show what they have to offer. With a large Sheffield fanbase and a set of quality tunes, this is not one to be missed – tickets are available via this link.

Patawawa – Yellow Arch Studios, 11th October

Described by NME as "if Calvin Harris time-travelled back to the time of Studio 54", Patawawa certainly know how to create a groove. Beautiful guitar fills, in-your-face synths and bite-y bass riffs gives this trio the attention they quite rightly deserve and their sound would suit the atmosphere of Yellow Arch perfectly.

Making the short journey from Matlock in the heart of Derbyshire, the indie electro-funk band will certainly make your Thursday night a lot more lively with some of the catchiest tunes you'll here for a while. They've got a long history of collaborations which have helped them get noticed on the streaming sites, releasing 16 EPs and singles since their debut in 2015. Unfortunately, tickets for this event are sold out, so I hope you're in the lucky few that have managed to get your hands on them.

Riscas – Café Totem, 16th October

Already gaining interest from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, Riscas have gone from strength to strength since the release of their debut single 'Panic Like Tom', which has gained international acclaim and has racked up just over two million streams on Spotify. The indie rockers are stopping off at Café Totem on their October tour, which includes dates at well-known venues such as Jimmy's in Manchester and Sunflower Lounge in their hometown of Birmingham.

Taking influence from renowned acts such as Two Door Cinema Club and Vampire Weekend, it won't be long until they are playing the same stages as these iconic bands, so see them at a small venue while you can. Support comes from Llovers and tickets are available here.

X Ray Cat Trio – The Washington, 19th October

As if the name wasn't good enough, this band live up to their off the rails moniker. Their album 'Out For Blood', released in 2015, combines 50s rockabilly, 60s garage and 70s punk rock. It's pretty much like The Shadows on acid.

The Leeds threesome, consisting of X Ray Nico, Adam Richards and Howlin' Ric describe their tunes as Vampyr Surf Rock 'n' Roll and if that's not a genre that you should go and check out, then I don't know what is and the intimacy of the Fitzwilliam Street venue will make this show even better. Support comes from Surf Muscle and The BearCats and it's free entry so there's really no excuses to miss this one.

Aurora D'Amico – West Street Live, 23rd October

Fancy a bit of a chilled night out at WSL (sounds impossible I know)? Then Aurora D'Amico can sort that out for you. The Italian singer-songwriter is making a stop at West Street Live on her first ever UK tour. Writing music since the age of 15, she's taken inspiration from American and British artists such as John Mayer, Norah Jones and Lucy Rose, which is obvious on her debut album 'So Many Things'. Although she lives in Palermo, she recorded her first EP in England, hoping to make a name for herself both here and in the US. A fantastic writer with a voice that sounds like it's come straight out of Nashville, this gig will go down very well with those looking for a quiet pint with some relaxing tunes.
