Police search Sheffield streets for firearms after gun shop burgled

Houses are being raided

Police have launched an investigation following the burglary of a gun shop in Sheffield late on Friday night.

The Hardy’s Gunsmiths store on Alderson Road was the target of the attack, during which thieves made off with several deadly firearms.

The business, which also has a shop on Eccleshill Road, sells and repairs rifles and shotguns.

DCI Mark Hakin, in charge of the case, said: “I appreciate this incident may be causing concern to the public.

“We are working relentlessly to progress enquiries quickly and piece together the circumstances.”

Despite the police arresting two men and a woman on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods, they have not found the weapons and they remain on Sheffield’s streets.

It comes following concerns over gun violence in the city and a council spokesman saying that gun crime has overtaken stabbings as a priority concern.

DCI Hakin added that police had ‘numerous lines of enquiry ongoing’, but would still like to appeal to the public for help.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 26 of April 3.
