Police launch probe over racist attack in Sheffield city centre

Do you recognise these men?

Police have appealed for information on a large group of men who allegedly punched and racially abused a man on Cambridge St, next to Yates in Sheffield city centre on Saturday evening.

The attack on the 55-year-old, who was with a 19-year-old woman, has been described as a “racially aggravated assault”.

South Yorkshire Police have released a picture of three men who they want to speak to over the incident, and have arrested two other 27-year-old men who have since been let out on bail.

Kevin Smith, the investigating officer, said: “This attack has left the victims extremely shaken and we need to make it very clear that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Sheffield or across South Yorkshire.

“I’d now like to ask for your help to piece together the moments leading up to this incident. Do you have mobile phone footage? Do you know the men who are pictured?”

Anybody with information about the attack should call 101 and quote incident number 670 of 13 June.
