Sheffield Hallam is awarding former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell an honorary doctorate
That’ll be Dr Halliwell-Horner to you
Sheffield Hallam University is awarding Geri Halliwell-Horner an honorary doctorate for years of philanthropy work in diversity and education.
The university has been awarding the honours since 1993, with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner being the latest celeb to earn one.
After rising to fame in the best-selling female group of all time the Spice Girls, Geri has spent the last 25 years advocating for children’s literacy, access to education, and women’s rights.
Her other achievements also include a decade-long stint as the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for women and the role of Vice-Patron for the charity Breast Cancer Care.
Halliwell-Horner described the award as “a great privilege” and said: “I sincerely believe education is a superpower, supporting young people with the confidence, perspective and experience to pursue their life goals and dreams.”
Prior to the announcement of the honorary doctorate award, Geri was introduced to some of the initiatives run by Sheffield Hallam University that aim to help encourage diversity and inclusivity within education.
The honour aims to recognise her achievements, that Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Chris Husbands says “align closely with the university’s mission to Transform Lives”.
Geri will will receive her reward in November, alongside 12,000 graduating students.
