According to The Independent, York has one of the best Christmas markets in the UK and if you’ve already been down to St Nicholas Fair you'll have seen why!
A leisurely stroll down Parliament Street can turn any Grinch into a jolly little elf and the street is glowing with the twinkling Christmas lights while buzzing with festive cheer. The street is also rowed with holly trimmed Alpine Chalets which are full of traditional Christmas gifts and seasonal sweet treats.
The cosy chalets are the best place to hunt down that perfect present, offering stalls for all tastes and budgets you are sure to find a variety of festive delights. Open Monday-Wednesday and Sunday 10:00-18:00 and Thursday-Saturday 10:00-20:00 you have plenty of time to explore the chalets with a hot mulled wine and a chocolate crepe.
After a busy day of Christmas shopping you can relax and unwind in the fabulously festive Thor’s Tipi which offers a delicious foodie feast of Scandi Sausages or the tempting award-winning donuts from the Donut Kitchen.
Sit inside the cosy tipi warming up by the log-fire with a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate or a Bailey’s, because after all it is Christmas.
If you’ve been there and got the Instagram of St Nicholas Markets, then have no fear as York can still get you into the Christmas spirit if you head to the award-winning Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland at York Designer Outlet. Until the 6th January the outlet is home to North England’s largest outdoor ice rink, with the magnificent 30ft glistening Christmas tree as the ice-rinks centre-piece how can you not feel like you are in a winter wonderland? If you are a Bambi on ice, no worries you can stay toasty warm in Papa Hütte the apres-skate inspired cafe overlooking the ice-rink offering hot drinks.
The market is open now until the 23rd December so get your woolly hat on and head down to truly immerse yourself in the most wonderful time of the year.
