Cambridge’s Next Top Model

Rachel Tookey looks ahead to Cambridge Style Week

Cambridge is revamping its wardrobe. Next February will see the first ever Cambridge Style Week that aims to celebrate and inspire local successes, and promote local and student talent.

And in the meantime, this term it will be running a competition to find a model to become the face of Cambridge fashion for that week. Cambridge Style Week will be launched by international supermodel Sophie Turner at Life on Thursday 15th November.

The winning model will not only be the first down the catwalk during CSW but will feature prominently in promotional materials leading up to and during fashion week, as well as receiving a make-over, photo-shoot, and portfolio copies. No prior experience modelling is required so this is a chance to get regional and national exposure and start building a professional modelling career.

Whether boy or girl, and whatever your style, the competition is open to you to apply. All participants will be considered as models for runway shows and events going on throughout CSW 2013, so if you want to promote fashion and like to say something with what you wear, now is your chance to get a platform to shout it out across Cambridge.

Here’s how the competition will work: You fill out the application form and with it you’ll need to send in a headshot and full-length shot. These will be placed on CSW’s Facebook page for a popular ‘like’ vote to sit alongside the judges’ vote to select the shortlist of 40 entrants. The shortlisted models will then stride on to do a live casting call, with the winning announced in November.

Organiser Alexa Nash toldThe Tabthat ‘Cambridge Style Week is a new endeavour focussed on fashion, fine art, and design in Cambridge. The event acts as a platform – an international exhibition – bringing together industry leaders with local businesses and students to construct a truly diverse and explosive week-long extravaganza. The city will become the headquarters of style and sophistication.’

‘The week will have everything from headline shows to shopping experiences, exhibitions to style rides, and live performances to lectures.’
