The electronic dance quartet, three of whom recently graduated from Jesus College, pipped previous slot holder Pharrell Williams for the spot on Sunday, and their chart topper has achieved more sales over the past 7 days than any other January release since 1996.

The band was founded after current members Jack Patterson, Grace Chatto, and Milan Neil Amin-Smith met in 2009 as  undergrads. With a unique sound blending classical music on the strings with house beats, the group have been hotly tipped for their big break since their single Mozart’s House climbed to number 17 during its debut on the UK singles chart last April.

The band were also student favourites during their time in Cambridge, playing at the Trinity and St Johns May Balls in recent years, and performing at the Robinson and Tit Hall balls over the 2013 May Week season.

Following performances at Glastonbury last year,  Clean Bandit have announced a hectic UK touring schedule for 2014, plus plans for festivals over the summer, including Wireless Festival in July. They are also expected to release their debut album later this year, so keep your ears pricked for it when you’re in Fez over the next few months.
