Cambridge CONFIRMED as the UK’s best university

*according to one newly released set of rankings.

Cambridge has been ranked as the fourth-best university in the world in this year’s Academic Ranking of World Universities, improving one place from last year.

Also known as the Shanghai Ranking, the 2016 list shows Oxford improving three spots to climb into seventh place and leaves Harvard as the world’s best university. Stanford, UC, Berkeley and MIT rounded out the top five.

Harvard tops yet ANOTHER ranking

American universities dominated the top of the list, with UCL the only other British university to make it into the top 20, coming in at 17.

This is the first time Cambridge has improved in the rankings since 2010. In terms of subject, Cambridge’s math and physics degrees were ranked as the ninth best in the world, chemistry as the sixth best and economics/business degrees as the 18th best. Arts and humanities degrees are not ranked.

(un)lucky #7

Universities are compared in terms of the quality of their education and faculty, their research output and their per capita academic performance. The ranking has been criticized for stressing science over humanities in the way universities are ranked.

Unlike the ill-fated women’s Boat Race and men’s Varsity Match, we’ve got Oxford beat.
