Medwards student assaulted on Magdalene Bridge
The assault happened in the early hours of this morning.
The student was approached by a drunk man, who asked her for money before he started following her.
The student ignored the man, but then realised he was following her – he grabbed her and assaulted her. He then stumbled which allowed her to get away.
The University has advised both staff and students to remain “extremely vigilant when walking in and around the city, particularly after nightfall.”
This attack is the most recent of a string of attacks on Cambridge student in the past weeks.
On Wednesday the 28th of September, a female student was approached and managed to escape an attacker wearing a high-viz jacket near Clare’s backs (Queens’ Road).
More recently, on Friday the 7th of October a female student evaded an attempted assault by a man on a bicycle while she was out running near the city centre. On the same day, a man was found “committing an indecent act” near the Sidgewick site.
Cambridgeshire Police commented on the incident on the 7th of october saying that “Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact police on 101, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or visit https://crimestoppers-uk.org/ ”
Clare students in particular were warned that: “a man has been approaching lone women out running or walking in the Grange Road/Queens Road area after dark.”
The Cambridgeshire Police told The Tab on Tuesday “‘We are investigating reports that a woman in her twenties was sexually assaulted between 1.00 am and 1.20 am on October 17th. The woman was walking along Castle Hill when the incident happened.
