A round-up of LGBTQ+ history month in Cambridge

With the start of LGBTQ+ history month, it is all the more important to be aware of the different ways you can connect with the queer community in Cambridge and celebrate your identity!

Here’s a handy list of how to get involved this February:

Nights out

If you’re looking for a good time on a Monday night and just can’t wait until Wednesday revs, why not try the Queer Get Down at Mash? These charity club nights, aimed specifically at queer Cambridge students, promise music for everyone to enjoy and an exciting new theme every two to three weeks.

Watch this space for new event announcements, and get yourself down to Mash this February!

For those with just too many 9ams to go clubbing during the week, the long-running Cambridge club night, the Dot Cotton Club, could be the answer. They run events on the first Saturday of every month from 9 pm onwards in the Union bar, and for only £6 entry, what more could you ask for? Find the details for their next event here!

JCR Committees

If you prefer staying closer to home, make sure to look up what events your LGBTQ+ officers and JCR committees are putting on to celebrate LGBTQ+ history month. From formals to pub quizzes, there’s sure to be something on offer for everybody.

Drag

Anyone interested in watching or performing drag this term should pay close attention to the events being put on by Dragtime!, the university drag society. In particular, Justa Knight’s show ‘Comfort Zone’ on February 18th, boasting not only a spectacular live show in the evening but also a half-day creative space beforehand.

Moving away from strictly student events, the Town and Gown is hosting the year’s first drag bingo event, Fatt Butcher’s Disco Bingo. The event will be held on February 24th, featuring performances, comedy, and – most importantly – DISCO!

Open Table

Finally, for those involved in the Christian community, Downing Place Church hosts Open Table meetings every first and third Sunday of the month at 7 pm. Open Table is a partnership of Christian communities which welcomes all LGBTQ+ individuals to their meetings.

There are so many opportunities to connect with the queer community in Cambridge during LGBTQ+ history month – have fun getting involved!
