Cardiff will run an all-night bus service if the taxi strike goes ahead

A night-bus service is set to run round Cardiff if the proposed Hackney Drivers taxi strike goes ahead.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Cardiff taxi drivers were set to strike over two weekends in April because Hackney Drivers thought it was unfair that five taxi drivers were suspended. This was as the result of 90 complaints to Cardiff Council.

The strikes are planned to occur over the 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd of April, meaning transport bosses of Cardiff have said an all-night bus service will be available for X1 services if the plans go through.

The X1 service runs through Albany Road and the city centre, and there will be a bus available every thirty minutes for those who need transport.

Prices are said to stay the same as they would in the day time, meaning daily tickets are £3. The night buses will also have a security guard on board.

If the service is popular, the X1 bus service, which normally runs from 6.30am to 9pm, will remain 24 hours. Kevyn Jones, New Adventure Travel’s managing director, said that: “Cardiff is constantly growing and there’s a lot happening here 24 hours a day.

“If there’s enough demand for a 24-hour service, then we would seriously consider it seven days a week.”
