Goodbye my lover, goodbye my friend: 29 Park Place has closed down

RIP to the cracking cocktails

The announcement was made on 9th January and blames rising business rates for the closure leaving the owner Jon Saunders with "no choice".

The company running the bar had debts of over £250,000 before they closed, and told Wales Online that the growing business rates were "the straw that broke the camel's back".

The venue opened more than two years ago and described itself as "your new home away from home". It provided both food and drinks as well as hosting live music nights.

Laura, second year Economics and Philosophy student said "I'm gutted really, their cocktails were my fave and the atmosphere was always good".

The 29 Park Place Facebook page now says "permanently closed". The full statement reads :

"It is with a heavy heart that I can confirm the imminent closing of 29 Park Place. We had high hopes of making it a long standing success when we set up over two years ago but due to the pressure of rising business rates in the city centre, we have no choice but to make this difficult decision.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our brilliant staff members, both past and present, friends and business who have supported us over the years."

Long live Park Place.
