Review: Chronicle

When an antisocial high school student decides to videotape all aspects of his life he captures the discovery of an unknown object. Andrew, along with his cousin Matt and their popular classmate Steve gain telekinetic abilities, creating a strong bond between the three unlikely friends.

Chilling, exciting and tense, Chronicle offers an alternative account of what happens when the troubled and alienated teen gains super powers and the terrible consequences of losing control.

What is most impressive about this feature is the point of view shooting; the film consists of footages shot from Andrew’s camcorder as well as various other video recording devices, giving a close insight of Andrew’s struggles in his personal life, feelings of isolation and his deteriorating mental state.

Aesthetically pleasing and thought provoking, the film, lead by a talented young cast brilliantly portrays teenage life and angst with a dark and eerie edge leaving you wanting more.

Scoring a respectable 84% on Rotten Tomatoes the film was received well with Empire’s film critic Mark Dinning described it as "A stunning superhero/sci-fi that has appeared out of nowhere to demand your immediate attention.”
