Take a peek at the new ‘cock on campus

University caught shamelessly peacocking their commitment to recycling.

Built in collaboration with local Devonshire artist Ed Crumpton, the Art Society has unveiled a new sculpture titled ‘The Peacock’ (no prizes for guessing why) to brighten our campus.

This shiny little beast can be spotted at the top of Poole Gate (at the back of the Forum) and has been forged from metal and hording sheets used in the construction of the Forum, aiming to promote recycling whilst paying homage to the Forum’s completion.

Each aspect of the sculpture is meant to represent elements of the building process, with its two outer layers of glass-beaded feathers representing not only the addition of the Forum and the extended library but to the two years it took to finalize the building.
However, perhaps they should have bashed the top of it a little, to represent the roof collapsing in the rain, or even crack a glass bead each time the doors break.

The sculpture itself is blinding in the sun as it reflects its surroundings and is a beautiful addition to the campus, showing the great collaborative works of students and the local community.
