Severe Weather Expected in Exeter

Heavy rain and strong winds are predicted in the Exeter region over the next two days.

The Met Office has forecasted the storm developing in the west Atlantic before intensifying rapidly late on Sunday.

With wind speeds expected to reach up to 55mph, an amber wind warning has been issued for Monday.

“There is still a chance this storm may take a more southerly track and miss the UK,” said Eddie Carroll, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, “bringing impacts elsewhere in northern Europe, but people should be aware there is a risk of severe weather and significant disruption.”

“During the initial phase, heavy rainfall seems more likely to be the main issue,” a Met Office spokesperson also stated, “with surface water flooding perhaps happening quite quickly in places given the intensity of rain falling onto already wet ground.”
