Lufbra and Nottingham in town for huge BUCS KOs

After the great slaughter performed by our Netballers less than two weeks ago, the purple menace returns to Exeter for another battle – this time against the EUMHC’s 2nd XI, on Wednesday at 4pm.

Our boys have enjoyed comfortable wins over Swansea and UWE to progress to the last eight of the BUCS Trophy, hockey’s second tier knockout competition, and the old enemy now lies between them and a place in the last four.

Under the tutelage of the Mourinho-esqe Simon James Tyson, the 2s have enjoyed a dominant season.

Their BUCS Conference is already in the bag, and they sit atop the world-renowned DW Premiership, where they have enjoyed battling sides who hope to gain promotion to play against the 1st XI next season.

The most prolific hockey badger to grace this University since Tyson himself – Ben Brandt – admits that “this is the tie the whole club wanted,” and adds that it’ll be the most important game he’s ever played in.

Todd the Wall Dudley will lead a back line that has been in imposing form throughout the course of this season.

The line features Scrabble extraordinaire Will Baker, aerial bomber Alex Thompson, ladies’s man James Claughton and drag flicking specialist Myles Mad Dog Locke.

Fresher Noah Sharples will look to dictate terms in the middle of the park with his slick skills and some equally slick one liners.

Brandt the badger, meanwhile, will be joined up front by the energetic Albert Thornton and protein-addict Jamie Sones.

The game will be preceded by the EULHC 1st XI’s knockout clash with Nottingham in the last eight of the BUCS Championship at 2pm.

The girls wrapped up the BUCS Southern Premier League with a game to spare, and will be looking to build on what has already been a successful season by securing another semi-final birth.

Tab Rising Star and England Under-21 Kathryn Lane will be looking to boss Nottingham off the park alongside defensive rock Annabel Driver, who captains the side.

Look out for Bobbie Burkin, who will be chucking some sweet aerials from the flanks, and the silky skills of Hannah Griffiths, the Queen of Tekkerslovakia.

A bit of biff may also come from Lori Gleeson, who isn’t adverse to throwing what we Aussies call “a good old fashioned hip and shoulder.”

It would mean a great deal to both clubs if we could get as many people out as possible – megaphones and air horns are encouraged.

It’s not everyday we get to host our Northern rivals, so let’s make sure we put them back in their rightful place and get two wins on Wednesday.
