WhatsAppened to blokes these days? Student shares photo of girl in bed to ‘prove’ he had sex with her
Student snaps girl in bed and then sends the image to all his team-mates
For many students, WhatsApp is used for instant messaging, sharing images and – usually after a couple of VKs – the odd slurred-word voice clip.
But the billion-dollar social network turned nasty for one Exeter student earlier this year when she learned a group of ten cricketers were sharing her naked photo in a seedy thread.
After staying round the house of the Sports Science student she was seeing, she heard him taking a picture on his phone and uploading it to WhatsApp.
Now, in an exclusive interview with The Tab, she tells the story of the crafty cricketer in question.
“I was just checking my emails [in bed],” she recalls, “and I heard the sound of him taking a picture of me, and then the tick on WhatsApp.”
When she realised what he’d done, she felt “shocked,” “really confused” and “very objectified.”
“At the beginning he just said ‘I’m just taking a picture because you look really pretty.’
“And then he explained it was his cricket WhatsApp group, made of ten people.
“The picture was basically of me on my phone under the duvet, but you could tell I was naked.
“You could tell I had been there the night [before].
“It was a usual thing for them [the lads in the WhatsApp group] to do.
“They just showed who they slept with, and then to try and make me feel better I was shown other pictures of other people.
“There were quite a few pictures of girls in beds, or on sofas. They were all asleep, though. I was the only one who was actually awake.”
Defending his actions, the cricketer described the pictures as “a lad thing we did,” and that she “should feel very proud” he took the picture of her because it shows how she was “really hot.”
“I can’t believe that people have that picture of me on their phone now,” the female student said, who wished to remain anonymous. “I think he needed to prove he had slept with me.”
