Tongan rugby team binge in Nando’s for 10 days in a row

No lemon and herb for this lot

Chicken loving Tongan rugby players visited Exeter Nando’s an extraordinary 10 days in a row.

The Pacific islanders have been using the university as a base during the Rugby World Cup.

These chicken obsessed players have gone in to get their fix of fowl more than once a day.

Tongan’s become part of the ‘Nando’s family’

Their regular appearances at the Princesshay Nando’s branch, and their willingness to interact with the public, won the favour of the Exeter locals.

They boosted their support at Sandy Park on Tuesday as they triumphed over their Namibian counterparts 35-21, a bonus point win.

They built up such a rapport with the Nando’s staff that they posted this good luck wish on their Facebook page and are going to hang a signed Tonga shirt in their restaurant.

The staff said: “They visited every day for the past 10 days, and feel like part of our family now. Good luck boys.”

With no Nando’s in Tonga, getting through the group stages comes with the added incentive that the longer they stay in the world cup, the more opportunity they have to gorge themselves.

Exeter rugby boys have already found themselves on the end of Tongan tackles.

Our team have played against the Tongan national side twice in the last fortnight and been using our gym.

In fact, the high performance gym on campus didn’t have enough weights to keep them occupied.

They had to bring their own dumbbells, which are so big even Exeter’s most legendary tin shifters wouldn’t know what to do with them.

With their bonus point win over their Namibian counterparts, the Exeter town favourites were certainly the embodiment of extra hot, in comparison to their opponents who seemed more like the kind of blokes that might order lemon and herb, or worse, mild sauce.
