He booked Karma Kid for his 21st
Straight off the back of bringing WHP Headliner Lauren Lo Sung to our very own Cavern we spoke to Tom, Accounting and Finance third year and founder of UpAndComing events.
After spending his Freshers’ frequenting Dirty Beats at Moz on Thursdays and Arena Mondays, Tom decided to throw his first event – booking Karma Kid at Cavern for his 21st birthday.
Ready to party
One year on, and UpAndComing have just marked their first anniversary with a special event, putting Third Son on in Cavern – the venue where it all started.
Describing UpAndComing in his own words, Tom said it was “A business which seeks out new and developing artists. Run by students, definitely growing, with huge stuff lined up.”
Dropping some phat beats
UpAndComing may be best known for their huge after-exams event at the Lemmy in January, bringing Redlight & Woz down to Exeter, and for their four hour boat party in summer term, to round off the year.
For Tom, putting on club nights essentially involves throwing a huge party which all your friends come to. He says the best part is “knowing everyone is having a great time because of you.”
We’re gonna we need a phatter boat
Tom was more than willing to dish out his advice for enterprising Exeter undergrads: “Take your time at the start, don’t try and run into it.
“Get a good team in place and have every role covered. Spending money without resources won’t be effective. Speak to people in the industry to get advice. You learn through mistakes.”
