ExeHonestly apologises for uploading racist ‘no n-word November’ submission

Facebook page ExeHonestly has been criticised for an offensive post they uploaded to their page earlier this week.

The page is known for posting anonymous submissions sent in by students. Earlier this week, they posted a submission that read: "No nut November is a piss-take. Everyone knows no n-word November is the real challenge."

The page, which has over 5,000 likes, allows anyone to upload submissions, as long as they comply with the Facebook Community Standards. These state: "We do not allow hate speech on Facebook because it creates an environment of intimidation and exclusion".

Another Facebook page "Spotted: Racism in Exeter & Devon" posted a screenshot of the upload onto their page, tagging the university and expressing their disappointment in the student body, who they believe "seem to find these sorts of comments appropriate and amusing to post on a platform followed by thousands… anonymously, of course".

Commenting on the post, ExeHonestly replied: "Apologies for any offence caused. The post does not represent the views of the page, its admins, Exeter residents, or the University.

"The page takes anonymous 'confessions' and posts them. They are regulated but we get hundreds of confessions a day, we try our best to read them all and judge them accordingly but this shows we need to try harder.

"Thank you for letting us know, we had removed the post yesterday and have told all admins to read the confessions properly. This mistake will not be repeated, and we apologise once again".

This post comes in the same year that five Bracton Law Society members were exposed for sending racist messages in a WhatsApp group.
