Looks in Lockdown: Exam season edition
Your long awaited third term is here, and it’s bringing along with it some serious style
We’re in just as much shock as you that we’ve finally been allowed to experience a third term in Exeter. What is this sunshine? Is that the sound of students? Yes it is and in this edition we are showing you the best third term looks you’ve ever seen.
Exam season hasn’t seemed to stop you all from showcasing your summer looks at the Quay or the Impy (if you’re able to get a table, that is.) We are very much here for it and hope that this edition can release some stress from dissertations and endless scrolling on ELE.
Will, fourth year, History, (@will_hall1)
Where are all your pieces from?
My jacket is from Urban Outfitters in the US, my trousers are from ASOS and the shoes are Nike.
How has your style changed over the various lockdowns?
To be honest, I don’t think it’s changed too much, other than I’m now making an effort to only buy second hand stuff to be sustainable.
Where do you get your fashion inspo from?
Mostly from my friends and films.
One thing for sure is that we haven’t seen a statement jacket like Will’s in a long time and we want it.
Holly, second year, History, (@holy.lambb)
Why is this your Look in Lockdown?
I think it really shows my style – slightly hectic with a hint of grunge. I love wearing lots of colourful pearls and longer chains, with smaller more delicate gold necklaces. The monochrome trousers from Jaded also work well by offsetting them with the orange and red emblems on the jacket.
What is your favourite part of your outfit?
I would say probably the vintage racing car jacket, I bought it with the intention of reselling it after wearing it a few times, but ever since I’ve had it I can’t help but want to keep it. I don’t think I’ll ever let go.
Who is your favourite fashion designer?
My two favourite Depop sellers at the moment are lula12jones and shopyotts. In terms of brands I love House of Sunny, Naked Wolfe, The Ragged Priest. For streetwear Dover Street Market!
A gal who loves House of Sunny and Dover Street Market is a gal after our own hearts.
Ellie, third year, English (@ellielay)
Where are all your pieces from?
These trousers are from Bershka, this is actually their first outing! The top is Fixative and from a collaboration with EUTC (Tennis society), the blazer is Zara and the shoes are classic Nike Air Forces. The sunglasses are from somewhere like M&S and necklaces are Bershka as well.
How has your style changed over the various lockdowns?
I’ve recently tried to incorporate more colour into my wardrobe, helping to spice up the dreariness of writing my diss (which was also my mindset with the other day’s Bershka order). I’ve done too much online shopping in lockdowns so am trying to stop that and be more ethical with my purchases. Aside from the Bershka order, that is…
Where do you get your fashion inspo?
My mum wears a lot of colour so I got inspiration from her when I went home over Easter. I went through a phase of only wearing browns and neutrals and I’m very much over that now. Sometimes the algorithm on apps like TikTok show me sick outfits. My friends also give me inspiration, and aside from that I do my own thing!
Ellie’s sunnies show us that M&S is not only good for food. Although their ready meals are elite. We also rate her obsession with Bershka.
Liv, second year, Drama, (@_livjonesss)
Why is this your Look in Lockdown?
I picked this look because it best sums up my sense of style in one crazy outfit. I am a big lover of anything that’s colourful and/or has an eye-catching pattern. Anything that makes a statement! It also reflects my passion for sustainability as everything in this outfit right down to the jewellery is sourced from vintage of charity shops, and small independent businesses.
What is your favourite part of your outfit?
This is a really tricky question as this includes a lot of my favourite pieces but if I had to pick I’d say my jeans as I up-cycled them myself both with my sewing machine and by hand. I have a small Depop business doing this and it’s always nice being complimented on something I worked on personally.
Who is your favourite designer?
I don’t really have a favourite designer or shop, as my inspiration comes from so many different styles. I’m a big fan of fashion through the decades, I like to base my outfits from anywhere from the 60s mod era through to the noughts y2k trend.
A warning Liv, we might be asking you to up-cycle some of our clothes ASAP!
Ben, second year, Drama, (@bencooper1616)
Why is this your Look in Lockdown?
I’m really into my baggy trousers at the moment with simple designs in the middle of my t-shirts. Nothing too extravagant though.
What is your favourite part of your outfit?
My favourite part of the outfit is a toss up between the sliders and the shark costume. The shark costume probably edges it but the sliders are really comfy.
Who is your favourite designer?
I really like embroidery so brands like Parlez and Morph costumes on Amazon are my go to.
Same Ben, same. There’s just something about Morph costumes. Although we must say the giant lobster costume is what we would go for tbh.
Céire, second year, English, (@ceirefowley)
Why is this your Look in Lockdown?
This is my lockdown look because trackies are so comfortable I can’t imagine having to wear jeans again after lockdown.
What is your favourite part of your outfit?
My favourite part of the outfit is the platform trainers because trousers aren’t made for short people and trainers save my life.
Who is your favourite designer?
I don’t have a favourite brand but at the moment I love Jaded London. I try and shop on Depop as much as possible though because it’s cheaper and eco-friendly.
Céire knows the struggle and pain of your trousers dragging along the pavement. ‘Tis not fun.
Alex, fourth year, Law, (@a.southworth)
Where are all your pieces from?
My dungarees are from Carhartt, my top is Dream But Do Not Sleep and my shoes are Reebok.
How has your style changed over the various lockdowns?
Over the last lockdown I realised it’s now too hot to wear dungarees.
Where do you get your fashion inspo from?
Of Mice and Men.
Alex may be stuck in GCSE English mindset, yet his Carhartt dungarees prove that his style is fully in 2021!
Skye, second year, English (@skyeewx)
Where are all your pieces from?
My brown scarf is from eBay, I copped my trousers in the Heart Foundation charity shop and my top is Zara. My shoes are JD.
How has your style changed over the various lockdowns?
I didn’t really used to care what I wore. However, as I’ve had so much free time in lockdown I’ve started to become more interested. I now buy a lot of second hand items from eBay as they’re absolute bargains and I don’t want to keep contributing to fast fashion.
Where do you get your fashion inspo from?
I’m a sucker for Pinterest.
Skye’s new interest in fashion has definitely paid off, with the colour of her outfit showing she is very much on trend!
Greg, fourth year, PPE, (@greg_james_young)
Where are all your pieces from?
My jacket from Levi’s and my shirt from Thomas Browne were both charity shop buys, and great finds. My shorts are from Uniqlo and my shoes are North Face.
How has your style changed over the various lockdowns?
My fashion has become more outdated because I can’t afford to buy new clothes and all the charity shops have been shut.
Where do you get your fashion inspo from?
Personalised adverts.
At the time of writing this article charity shops are now officially open, so Exeter students have no excuse for not shopping sustainably. We have no doubt that Greg is leading the charge to them!
Suzi, third year, English and Drama, (@suzibramwell)
Why is this your Look in Lockdown?
This is my Look in Lockdown because I think it looks cute, and also the dungarees are in my favourite colour (I love the rusty orange) both of which always lift my mood which I feel is essential at this point in lockdown. I also love the flares vibe and think they work well for outdoor drinks when I want to look cool but also stay warm. Finally, this look is super comfy too for the days in the library which I have been struggling through as a third year. I have only been wearing my Filas in lockdown as again they are so comfy and easy to chuck on with anything.
What is your favourite part of your outfit?
The headband/scarf is my favourite part of this look as it was my Nana’s. She had tons of colourful satin/silk scarfs that got passed on to me when she passed and now I roll them up to wear as headbands! I feel like those kind of headbands scarfs are having such a moment right now so I love it. It also makes me feel close to my Nana.
Who is your favourite designer?
This is such a hard question . My favourite shop definitely used to be Urban Outfitters (basic Exeter I know) but one of my New Year’s resolutions was to shop more sustainably so I’ve been buying off Depop and taking stuff from my friend’s wardrobe recently. My favourite designer is Reformation, they are an LA based sustainable fashion brand that makes really gorgeous pieces, but their clothes are super expensive so I only have two summery style dresses from there.
Fashion with sentimental value is fashion at its best. It makes us so happy to hear that Suzi feels close to her Nana when she wears her headbands.

This has been your first third term edition of Looks in Lockdown and as always we hope that you’ve enjoyed it. If you want to be in the summer editions please get in contact via instagram @thetab.exeter. Oh and get your dungarees out, as they clearly seem to be the item to wear in Exe this summer.
