Lancaster University moves Summer Term online amidst COVID-19 pandemic

Lancaster University has today announced that Summer Term (due to commence on 21st April) will not have any face-to-face contact hours, nor any on-campus examinations.

Following the university’s decision to cancel Roses 2020, the university has now explained that students set to sit exams in Summer Term will be informed of alternative measures by their respective departments.

In a statement released today, the interim University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Steve Bradley said: “As I am sure you will appreciate, this is an unprecedented situation and our top priority remains to deliver teaching as effectively as possible whilst ensuring the continued safety of students and staff.

“We have therefore decided to extend the period of alternative provision for classroom teaching and examinations to include the summer term (i.e. up to the 26^thJune 2020). Colleagues are working through the details for all students and details of the specific arrangements for each subject area will follow in due course. We appreciate your continuing patience in these challenging times. Postgraduate research students should discuss these alternative arrangements with their supervisor.

“Subject to any change in government policy it is our intention that the University will remain open during this period but that those who wish to study off campus during this period will be able to. Students will want to consider any continuing and outstanding obligations they may have. We will be providing a remote and reduced operating model for accessing services and facilities on campus. Some staff will remain on campus to provide essential services. Although most will be working from home, staff will be available and contactable remotely. More details of what will remain open and what will close will follow shortly, but it is our intention to keep the Library, the Learning Zone and The Base open.”
