It seems Liverpool never learns. Just weeks after the deaths of three men following an overdose on dodgy Es, Merseyside Police are now warning us of a potentially fatal import of crystal meth.

Last week, police seized a kilo of the drug in Walton, near Anfield. They have since arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the batch.

And it appears the class A drug is on the up in Liverpool. 700g of methamphetamine, more commonly known as crystal meth, was found on the Wirral back in November 2012.

Although it is not thought the drug is being produced in the region, its usage is increasing greatly.

Crystal meth can be snorted, smoked, injected or swallowed, giving users an intense high lasting hours.

Detective Superintendent Chris Green said: “Methamphetamine causes the heart to beat faster and blood pressure to rise. Since the content of the drug sold varies widely, it is difficult to judge the size of dose. An overdose of methamphetamine can result in seizures, high body temperature, irregular heartbeat, heart attack, stroke and death.

“I would call on the wider public to call Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers if they have any information about who is distributing or importing this drug so that we can take them off the streets and prevent someone come to serious harm.”
