Uni Appeals for Students to Take Part in University Challenge
The university launch an appeal for Humanities students to apply for University Challenge Series 21.
The university is appealing for any Humanities and Social Sciences boffins to take part in next year’s University Challenge.
The university is still looking to complete its team, and are hosting trials on Monday November 18.
The trials for Series 21 of University Challenge, which will be aired in 2014, will be held in the Large Dining Room in 5 Abercromby Square.
Doors will be open until 5.30pm for students to take the test.
Although it is mainly directed at Humanities students, everyone from under-grads to post-grads, full time courses and students on part-time courses are urged to take the test to see if they have what it takes.
Students received an email today advertising the opportunity. The email said: “Taking part in University Challenge is a unique experience; it is extremely enjoyable, a bit nerve-wracking, but most of all an achievement of which to be extremely proud.”
Although Liverpool does not have a glorious reputation on University Challenge, this year saw Liverpool beat Keele, securing a 255 point winning margin in their first round match.
The team consisted of Chris Spencer, 22, Daniel Jenkin-Smith, 22, Luke Nugent, 21 and Katherine Monks, 19.
Team captain, Chris, was delighted with this victory. He said: “We had no idea we would do so well to be honest, as we were painfully aware of Liverpool’s past form in the competition. Luckily the questions seemed to fall in our favour.
“We think the team worked because we all got along so well. The most important thing is that we tried to have fun and not take things too seriously.”
