Father shot in front of his child in Wavertree

He was shot as he left his home last night

A Wavertree dad was shot in the back last night in front of his 18 month old child.

He has been left in hospital in a serious but stable condition after he was shot around 8pm yesterday evening.

A man, believed to have been armed with a shotgun, approached the victim as he left his home on Maberley View with his partner and 18 month old child.

He shot the dad after a short foot chase and officers believe it to be a “targeted attack”.

Supt Mark Wiggins, said: “Merseyside Police deals robustly with any incidents of gun crime and we will relentlessly pursue those who use guns on our streets.

“If you have any information which could help us to identify who carried out this attack, please call us so we can put them before the courts and bring them to justice.”

As the scene is cordoned off this morning for forensic examination, police are calling for any witnesses to get in contact and have stepped up patrols in the student-dominated area.
