Who wants to look like a Kardashian?
Good taste comes to die at Kardashian Beauty in Clayton Square.
After some investigation, turns out that the new store in Clayton Square is as bizarre as expected.
Plush, faux-velvet ropes welcome the unsuspecting shopper (or rabid Kim fan) into the store, a strange glittery shrine towards the vapid reality TV stars, and the gaudy make-up itself is definitely one to be missed.
But the shop has been in a bit of legal trouble after The Liverpool Echo made out it was Kosher-certified Kardashian, turns out that isn’t the case. Presentation would make you believe the sisters have had some input, but “it’s not the Kardashian’s store, we just have a European license to sell their products” co-owner of the store, Monica explains.
“We were nearly sued by the Kardashian’s lawyers because The Echo made out like we said that the store belonged to the Kardashian’s.”
Prices range from £9 – £20. The fifteen quid lip-gloss is pricier than the MAC equivalent, but with products only marginally less tacky than the Kardashian clan themselves, this isn’t the place for anyone looking for decent cosmetics.
Sadly, the store doesn’t offer a make-over service, but testers were enough to prove that the products were pretty mediocre, the nail varnishes on display already separating.
Checking out what the stores co-owner described as “reasonably priced and good quality make-up” proves confusing – who’s forking out 20 quid for face glitter?
Aside from what the store has to sell, the whole experience is made even stranger by an excessive number of pictures of the Kardashian sisters. The highlight being Yeezus himself making an appearance in black and white image of a smiling Kimye, ‘Just Married’ plastered on the back of their jackets.
With product names like ‘Kardazzle’ and ‘Shebang’, it’s more than enough to make anyone nauseous – is the whole thing an elaborate joke, or a signifier of the sad consumer culture the family embody?
With this being the only Kardashian catastrophe in the UK, lets hope it’s the last.
