Another victory: Liverpool wins Destination of the Year in cruise ship awards

Yeah buoy

Legendary Liverpool was ranked first place for “Destination of the Year” at the prestigious Seatrade Cruise Awards on Friday, beating the Guadeloupe Islands in the Caribbean and the Baltic to the top spot.

Previous winners include Copenhagen and Singapore and this triumph comes months after the city hosted the three Cunard Queens cruise liners as part of the 175th anniversary of the shipping line.

It is the most recent win in a growing list accomplishments for the Liverpool cruise terminal, which has also taken home the Cruise Critic “Port of call of the year” prize for the last two years.

Home of the legends

Angie Redhead, the city’s cruise manager was chuffed with the achievement, she said: “We are delighted to be named as winner of this prestigious award which is incredible recognition for Liverpool.

“We make every cruise line and every cruise passenger feel special when they call to Liverpool with enhancements such as music, street theatre, firework farewells and aligning cruise calls with our major events programme.

“The award will only help contribute towards the growth of cruise shipping in Liverpool as more and more cruise lines hear that we are one of the best ports in Northern Europe.”

Winners of the Destination of the Year award

Second year Pharmacology Student Rob is pleased with the lengthy list of awards Liverpool have scooped over the past few years, and recognises the city’s strengths.

Rob told The Tab: “Liverpool is so diverse and there is so much to do and see.

“There is definitely a community feel within the city which makes to help you feel a part of it.”

Unsurprisingly, this victory follows a string of awards over the course of the year.

Back in July we were crowned the fourth most friendly city in the world and earlier in the year, TripAdvisor named Liverpool  the fourth best tourist destination to visit in the UK.
