The Guild have granted 45 Christmas wishes so far

Out of over 300 requests, the Guild have managed to grant 45 of our Christmas wishes.

Between the 1st of December and today Friday the 11th, the Guild have been granting people’s wishes on Twitter using the hashtag #GuildWish.

Clearly trying to redeem themselves after the burrito inflation and installing the disgraceful Guild Shop doors, they’d set up this very generous system that’s brimming with Christmas spirit and cheer.

So far they have given away Urban Decay makeup vouchers, alcohol, a toaster, ink cartridges, and Steve Aoki tickets.

Our personal favourite was a whiteboard cut out of Alex Ferguson.

Pete Wright, a second year studying Industrial Design was granted one of the first few wishes – two free burritos. He told us: “I was surprised when they actually responded. Was awesome to win free food, especially as the burritos are so good. Guild Wish is a really good idea and definitely improves your day.”

Rosie Ashraf, a first year History student, was generously given an Urban Decay makeup voucher: “I asked for my wish in the night and woke up to be it being granted. Was the best start to my day!”

The winner of a bottle of fancy Prosecco, third year Anatomy and Human Biology student, Lucy Lisanti, was also pleased with her win: “It’s my 21st on the last day of the semester so I wanted to celebrate in style with some bubbly.

“It’ll class up my current stash  of £3 Aldi wine! It was a fantastic surprise to win something.”

Robbie Sellars managed to get two spaces on the guest list of Steve Aoki. The Maths first year was also stunned by his luck: “I was initially shocked that the Guild was being so generous by granting Christmas wishes for students, I heard about it from a friend and so I thought there’s no harm in giving it a go.

“I never imagined that they’d grant my wish because the tickets are so expensive, but I’m absolutely buzzing that I’ve got them!”

Third year Accounting and Finance student, Monty Cann, similarly got two spaces on the guest list of Rudimental: “I was pretty psyched about getting them, I love Rudimental and I thought it would be a good excuse to take a girl with me but my mate suggested the wish idea to me so I have to take him.

“It’s made all the more better that my friends keep asking for burritos and hoodies and not getting anything, but I got expensive gig tickets!”

Katrina Miles, a third year Law student, even asked for a new toaster: “Our old toaster tripped the electrics every time we used it, so getting a flash new four slice toaster was awesome, one less thing to buy when I move into my own place.”

A much more selfless wish came from Izzy Hocking, a third year Vet student, who asked for a food bank drop off point, who explained: “I just thought it would be good if the Guild had a food bank drop off point so it was easier for students to donate. I think students are generous people and want to help others, but they can also be a bit lazy, so making giving convenient can only be a good thing.

“The Guild has opened up an Activity Space on The Street from now until we break up for Christmas where people can drop off any food – you can google what sort of food food banks need easily enough. Even if people only donate small things here or there it’ll make a difference to people in need, so people should definitely get involved.”

The best prize was won by Joe Smart, third year Aerospace Engineer, who got the Fergie cut out: “Recieving that whiteboard was the highlight of my year. Now I can have my favourite officer looking over me all day!”
