Fresher’s Week alleged rapist is in court today

The man is accused of attacking a UoL student on Borough Road in Birkenhead

He was charged with the rape of the 18 year old student during last year’s Fresher’s Week, after a Crime Watch appeal lead to his arrest in September.

Police said the complainant had been on a night out with friends in Liverpool city centre, before she took a taxi back to Birkenhead with a friend and a man she didn’t know at 5:30am on Monday 28th September 2015. Her friend exited the taxi on Whetstone lane, leaving her with the man.

Police say she was assaulted shortly after she left the cab on Borough Road.

The man, 32, is being charged with rape but prosecutors have said they want to add an allegation of assault by penetration to the indictment.

The case has been adjourned until November 2, when the accused will be expected to enter his pleas to the two charges.

The judge remanded him in custody until that date.
