Liverpool City Region sees rise in coronavirus infection rate for the first time in over a month
Sefton’s infection rate has increased by 15 per cent in the last week
Liverpool City Region’s coronavirus cases have increased ‘in a worrying sign‘ during the weeks leading up to Christmas, statistics have shown.
Sefton has seen a 15 per cent increase in infections with 220 new cases in the week of December 8th to 14th. The City of Liverpool region has also seen an increase in cases and now has a rate of 104 infections per 100,000 people compared to 90 infections per 100,000 people during the week before December 15th.
This infection rate is lower than the UK’s current average of 240.5 infections per 100,000 people in the last seven days, allowing the Liverpool City Region to remain in Tier 2.
Four neighbourhoods in the region have confirmed less than two coronavirus cases week ending December 15th, which are: Southport South, Ainsdale West, Seaforth South and Netherton South.
Netherton North has the highest rate of infection in the borough at 182 per 100,000 people, considerably lower than the current national weekly average.
The Wirral continues to have the Liverpool City Region’s lowest infection rate at 86 cases per 100,000 people.
